Fault codes read, investigated and explained in plain English — the standard check takes up to an hour.
A warning light doesn't tell you what's wrong — only that something is. Here's what the most common lights mean, and how urgently to act.
The most common warning light. Steady amber usually means an emissions or sensor fault — safe to drive carefully, but get it checked soon. A flashing light means a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter: book in as soon as possible.
Your normal brakes still work, but the anti-lock system that stops skids in an emergency may not. It's also an MOT failure, so have the fault code read before your next test.
The alternator may not be charging the battery. The car can cut out or fail to restart once the battery drains — get it checked the same day if you can.
The engine is overheating or coolant is low. Pull over safely and switch off — continuing to drive an overheating engine can cause serious, expensive damage.
Low oil pressure starves the engine of lubrication. Stop as soon as it's safe and don't drive on — this is the one light you should never ignore.
The diesel particulate filter is getting blocked — common on diesels used for short journeys. Caught early it can often be regenerated; left too long it becomes a costly replacement.
Not sure how serious it is? Call us on 01782 52 22 22 and describe the light — we'll tell you honestly whether it's safe to drive in.
Cheap code readers tell you a fault number. We go further: our multi-make diagnostic equipment reads every system your car reports, then we investigate the root cause so you're not paying to replace parts on a guess. The standard check takes up to an hour, and if a repair is needed you'll get a no-obligation quote first.

If the diagnosis leads to a repair, we only use quality parts from approved suppliers, covered by our standard 1 YEAR, 12,000 mile warranty, whichever is sooner.
This guarantee covers parts and labour, excluding any additional costs incurred due to a warranty failure.

If the light is steady amber and the car is driving normally, it's usually safe to drive carefully — but have it checked soon, because the underlying fault can get worse and it may be an MOT failure. If the light is flashing, or the car has lost power, book in straight away.
