Engine Management Light
The most common warning light. Steady amber usually means an emissions or sensor fault — safe to drive carefully, but get it checked soon. A flashing light means a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter: book in as soon as possible.
ABS Warning Light
Your normal brakes still work, but the anti-lock system that stops skids in an emergency may not. It's also an MOT failure, so have the fault code read before your next test.
Battery / Charging Light
The alternator may not be charging the battery. The car can cut out or fail to restart once the battery drains — get it checked the same day if you can.
Coolant Temperature Light
The engine is overheating or coolant is low. Pull over safely and switch off — continuing to drive an overheating engine can cause serious, expensive damage.
Oil Pressure Light
Low oil pressure starves the engine of lubrication. Stop as soon as it's safe and don't drive on — this is the one light you should never ignore.
DPF Light (Diesels)
The diesel particulate filter is getting blocked — common on diesels used for short journeys. Caught early it can often be regenerated; left too long it becomes a costly replacement.
