Some jobs are bigger than a routine service, but they're just as important. Timing belts, head gaskets, water pumps — these are the components that keep your engine running properly, and getting them done on time can save you from a much bigger bill down the line.

The temperature gauge is climbing
Overheating is the one to stop for. Continuing to drive a hot engine turns a cooling-system fault into a head gasket or a seized engine.
White paste under the oil filler cap
A mayonnaise-like residue can mean coolant is reaching the oil — a head gasket warning sign worth checking properly, though short runs in winter can mimic it.
A rattle on cold start
A brief rattle when the engine first fires can point at timing chain or tensioner wear — much cheaper addressed before the timing jumps.
Losing coolant or oil with no visible leak
Fluid going somewhere invisible is going somewhere it shouldn't. A pressure test finds the leak before the engine finds it for you.

When is my cambelt due?
It varies by engine — manufacturers set an age and a mileage interval, whichever comes first, and they range widely. Call us with your registration and we'll look up the exact schedule for your engine. Wet-belt engines in particular shouldn't be left past their interval.
What happens if a cambelt snaps?
On most engines the valves and pistons collide — a repair measured in thousands rather than hundreds, and sometimes a replacement engine. It's why the belt has a fixed interval: it's the one job you never want to run late.
How do I know if my head gasket has gone?
Overheating, white residue under the oil cap, a pressurised or bubbling coolant tank, white exhaust smoke, or coolant loss with no leak. Any of those deserves a proper test before you drive far — caught early, it's sometimes not the gasket at all.
My car is overheating — can I drive it to you?
If the gauge is in the red, no — stop, let it cool, and ring us. A few miles on an overheating engine can be the difference between a cooling repair and an engine rebuild.
