The engine management light is on
A steady amber light means the engine computer has logged a fault. The car may feel fine — but it's compensating, often at the cost of fuel or emissions.
The light is flashing
A flashing engine light means an active misfire — unburnt fuel damaging the catalytic converter as you drive. Ease off and get it seen promptly.
An electrical fault that comes and goes
Windows, sensors, warning chimes that misbehave intermittently are wiring or module faults that leave traces in the fault memory even when the symptom hides.
It just doesn't feel right
Hesitation, rough idle, poor starting — modern engines log data constantly. Live readings often show a failing component before it fails outright.

A cheap code reader gives you a fault number. Our multi-make equipment reads every system the car reports, and then we investigate the root cause — so you aren't paying to replace parts on a guess. The standard check takes up to an hour, and if a repair is needed you get a no-obligation quote first. Any repair we carry out is covered by our standard 1 year / 12,000 mile warranty on parts and labour, whichever comes sooner.

What's the difference between a steady and a flashing engine light?
Steady amber: a fault is logged, get it checked soon. Flashing: an active misfire is happening right now and unburnt fuel is overheating the catalytic converter — reduce load and have it looked at urgently.
Does the fault code tell you exactly what's broken?
No — a code is where the investigation starts, not where it ends. A sensor code can mean the sensor, its wiring or the thing it's measuring. We test the actual components so you pay to fix the fault, not to replace parts on suspicion.
Will disconnecting the battery clear the light?
It clears the light, not the fault — it returns as soon as the fault recurs. It also wipes the readiness monitors an MOT emissions check can rely on, so it's the wrong move just before a test.
Can you find intermittent faults?
Yes, though they're the patient kind — stored fault memory, live data and sometimes logging over a longer run. Tell us everything about when it happens; the pattern is half the diagnosis.
